A 30 Minute Format of Dancing Fun!

OUTLINE

Our intrepid Host and his sidekick: the Jester, will hit the street and persuade an unsuspecting person to dance on camera for a chance to win $1000.

A contestant accepts the challenge, rolls the dice, and delivers a random number between 1 and 6. It is like this that the rhythm of dance is chosen. The different styles are displayed for all to see on a list.

For instance:

  • Rock and Roll

  • Cha-cha

  • K-Pop

  • Hip-hop

  • Salsa

  • Reggaeton

Up to chance, the music of the selected rhythm starts and the dancer will have up to one (1) minute to dance, without a penalty to win $200, and make it to the next round.

If the contestant makes it through the first round without getting disqualified, he or she will win $200 cash on the spot.

The contestant can then continue on a second round for double or nothing, or choose to keep the money and go home.

The top prize is $1000 after accepting to continue on for a third round.

Playing will be fun, but winning won’t be simple.

RULES

TIME

Each dancer must dance for at least one (1) minute per round.

STAMINA

The dancer is disqualified if they can’t dance for the full minute or if they quit before the track stops.

CROWD APPLAUSE

The dancer is also disqualified after 3 penalties.

At the end of each round, the dancer is subject to the applause of the audience. The dancer moves on to the next round, only after receiving a strong level of noise from the crowd:

  • Round 1 - Dancer gets 70dB or above from audience applause to win $200

  • Round 2 - Dancer gets 75dB or above from audience applause to win $400

  • Round 3: Dancer gets 80dB or above from audience applause to win $1000

PENALTIES

Out of Bounds: All of the dancer’s moves must be done within the circular perimeter of a flat hula-hoop. Stepping on the line, or outside the Hula Hoop is a penalty.

Follow Jester: The Jester steps in front of the contestant from time to time, to join the dance. The contestant must mirror Jester’s every move, which may or may not be coordinated. If the contestant misses a step, the contestant is called out for a penalty.

Flops: The contestant dances at the rhythm of the beat. If the contestant is caught missing a step, the contestant is called out for a penalty.

As they make it from one round to the next, the penalties remain.

With three (3) cumulative penalties, the dancer is out!

REFEREE

A member of the production team is in charge of flagging the penalties, with The Jester pointing out possible missteps and encouraging audience participation, like a wacky referee on a football game. The contestants are motivated to be energetic and engage with the audience at the end of each dance.

TALENT HOST + JESTER

Both are quick-witted and funny with lots of improvisational skills. The ideal host is an amateur stand- up comedian or an up-and-coming social media influencer. The Jester is charismatic and a good dancer, endearing and mischievous at the same time.

CONTESTANTS

Random everyday people selected based on energy and some degree of coordination. We are not looking for the next Fred Astaire here. We are just looking for people with a great sense of humor and some degree of rhythm, after signing the obligatory liability release form. Lawyers must be kept happy!

PRODUCTION

It's a simple format. Our Host, the Jester and a crew of about 10, take their props and cameras on the road. They set up somewhere lively with high pedestrian traffic, like an open-air mall, or a public park, and get whoever's willing to sign up to dance for some cold hard cash. Then, the contestant is invited to sign the very necessary liability release form. We like to keep our lawyers happy.  Each episode will feature three or 4 contestants. Two or three, who did not make it, but provided funny reactions, and one who made it all the way.

LOCATION

Free from the restrictions of expensive sets and such, this show is pure charisma and street smarts. Production versatility allows the show to be produced at any key relevant market. The show can be shot at a location with high pedestrian traffic to increase visibility, crowd participation and social media engagement.

STAGE

A sidewalk, and a couple of hula hoops of different sizes: large and small to provide the dance perimeter for the contestants.

AUDIENCE

The crowd gathered around the contestant are pre-selected extras with easy smiles, plus a cheerful spirit so they can clap along, and encourage the dancers to give it their all. Anyone passing by and attracted by the action can join as part of the audience background. Legal signage alerts everyone they are on camera.

MUSIC

Original tracks of different genres created specifically for the show. The tracks can be from classic rhythms to latest tastes and trends in beats. Library music can also be a good source of tracks.

PROPS

  • Jumbo-sized foam dice or a Dice App

  • List of 6 musical rhythms on a digital tablet (according to market)

  • American Football Penalty flags

  • Flat Hula Hoops

  • Sound meter App

TYPICAL EPISODE

Each episode is self-contained for evergreen charm, and features at least three contestants. An episode will start and end with a contestant who makes all-the-way through to win $1000.

Each participant is presented separately. The show will feature one dancer at the time, and within each segment we will see multiple dancers.

The Host will ask a few questions to introduce each contestant.

Showing not only the fun of the dance and interactions with the Jester, but also showing cut-aways of funny reactions from the audience.

Each segment wraps with a cliffhanger built-in on whether a contestant made it, took the money or accepted the challenge to go on to the next round.

Between segments, the contestants share testimonials (confessionals) where they react to the experience adding color, humor, and maybe some drama!

In between performances, we also get to see reactions from the audience and outtakes from the contestants who did not make it, but had a blast trying!
